Solution
Establish a new, separate identity for permanent installation work, Showroom Experiential, while retaining and refreshing the INPHANTRY brand for agency gigs.
Insight
Attracting the attention of this specific market segment necessitated the establishment of a new brand identity targeted directly at these potential clients.
Challenge
INPHANTRY needed to capture more of the market for which they had developed a penchant—high-end bespoke showroom installations.
My Role
Tasked with reshaping the INPHANTRY brand to invite more permanent installation work, I worked with the creative team to gather inspiration, probe the ethos of the target audience, visually build the brand identity, and develop our portfolio. From the outset we had in mind to target the high end of the market, to establish our new identity as a bespoke service for brands to elevate their customer experience and the way in which customers interact with their products and their brand. A dark, elegant gold-tinged style quickly emerged, infused with a calligraphic mark (an admitted specialty of mine) to underscore the emphasis on craftsmanship, and to instill a sense of intrinsic value in the work itself.
For the INPHANTRY brand, the pseudo-militaristic style had become outmoded as the company grew and matured, so we explored visual directions which spoke to a clean, modern, light aesthetic to counterbalance the rich dark tones of Showroom. Eventually we settled on the simple split “I” mark with the hint of an “N” crossbar as a simple, bold, modern look with which to take the brand into the future.
Reception
The new identities resonated deeply with the culture and ethos of INPHANTRY, and immediately struck a chord with the team. For their fresh new start, INPHANTRY had the foundation upon which to build.
Development
A new identity was created to personify this focus: a sleek, creative, high-end agency—the aptly-named Showroom Experiential. The tone of this new company was developed to mirror its target audience, highlighting opulence through elegant simplicity, quality through craftsmanship. Meanwhile, the INPHANTRY brand identity was rebuilt from the ground up, shedding their pseudo-military mantle and embracing a more mature, modern design studio aesthetic to reflect the growth and maturity of the company itself.
Background
With well over a decade of agency work under their belts, INPHANTRY had executed projects of all shapes and sizes. But since their early event marketing days a specialty had emerged as both an area of expertise and a passion: permanent installations. INPHANTRY wanted to discover a way to invite more of these projects, such as showroom integrations, experiential product configurators, museum and art installations, into the fold and to establish themselves as experts and specialists.
